2 Children Murdered In South Africa Every Day

I haven't been posting about specific murders in South Africa for a while. That doesn't mean that the murders have magically stopped.

Police minister, Nathi Mthethwa, released crime statistics a couple of weeks ago. These statistics are usually thought to be modified to show a downward trend, but even so, the stats are alarming.

Police Minister, Nathi Mtethwa
In the period from April 2011 to March 2012, 15 609 people were murdered in South Africa. Close to 800 of these victims were children. Around 758 minors were victims of attempted murder.

An average of 70 cases of sexual offenses against children were recorded PER DAY.

Unfortunately, these articles are all in Afrikaans, but you can use Google translate. The English media doesn't consider these stories to be newsworthy.

At least somebody is taking notice in Europe. Belgian politician, Philip Claeys, recently spoke out about the farm murders in South Africa in the European Parliament, calling for sanctions against the ANC government.
